Jan. 9 was Canada Day at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.

Canadians shone at the national Red Angus show.

Lazy MC Red Angus of Bassano, Alta., owned by Clinton and Angela Morasch, won the grand champion bull with an April 2011 calf. Their daughter, Laurie was named junior herdsman of the year, an award created in 2004 by the American Red Angus Association to recognize showmanship and sportsmanship. Four of the bulls vying for the grand champion banner were Canadian entries.

The grand champion female went to Six Mile Angus of Fir Mountain, Sask., operated by Clayton and Corrine Gibson. The family won reserve grand champion bull and was recognized as premier breeders and exhibitors.

About 200 head showed in the open show and more than 100 youth showed in the junior show.
