REGINA — The Canadian Hereford Association auctioned off its three millionth registration number for $4,750 at Canadian Western Agribition, which runs from Nov. 24-29 in Regina.

The successful bidder was Copper Creek Ranch of Princeton, B.C. The ranch is owned by Ron and Sharon Stevenson and managed by Phil and Catherine Brown.

The three million and one registration went to Dallas Farms of Bowden, Alta., for $1,000.

The Hereford association has Canada’s largest purebred registry. In 1984, the herd book surpassed two million registrations of purebred cattle, said Steve Scott, executive director of the association.

The money will be invested in the Hereford foundation, where funds are divided among research projects, the youth program, Bonanza Legacy and scholarships through the association and the Keith Gilmore Foundation.

Church Ranch also bid $3,500 to own an original oil painting, which will also be placed in the Keith Gilmore Foundation to provide post secondary scholarships. Since the foundation began in 1987, more than $200,000 has been granted to Canadian students. Keith Gilmore was the publisher of the Canadian Hereford Digest for more than 30 years until he died in 1987.
