Auctioneers from Florida and Alberta were the big winners at the Calgary Stampede International livestock auctioneers competition held July 11.

Marcus Kent made his first trip to the Stampede and took away $5,000 in cash and other prizes for his ability to out chant 26 other competitors in the 27th annual event.

He works for the Ocala Stockyards in Florida selling cattle and other livestock as well as wholesale cars.

The reserve was Mike Nuss of Nebraska who has been in the business since 1979.

Third place and rookie of the year was Ryan Konynenbelt of Nobleford, Alta.

At 18 years of age, he finished high school last year and just graduated from the auctioneer school. He has been selling livestock since he was 15 and currently works at the Fort Macleod auction market.
