Alan Syhlonyk will become the new general manager of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) effective July 28, 2014.

“Alan will be a great asset to our organization” said Norm Hall, APAS President, in a press release.  “He has a good grasp of our industry as a producer and a professional agrologist.  Having worked in the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture for nearly 30 years, he understands how policies and regulations are developed and managed.”

Syhlonyk’s work with the department of agriculture has seen him involved in developing diverse agricultural issues such as multi-lateral and bilateral agreements, agricultural Crown land leases, trade agreements and business risk management.

Farm cash receipts rise in first half of 2025 on livestock gains

Farm cash receipts in the first half of the year were up 3.3 per cent over the same period last year buoyed by livestock receipts. Overall receipts between January and June totalled $49.6 billion, up $1.6 billion from the same period last year, Statistics Canada reported.

Syhlonyk takes over the general manager’s position following the retirement of Nial Kuyek last summer. The position has been shared in the interim by Doug Faller and Mitch Demyen.

“I look forward to working with the APAS Board of Directors and Representatives as they are the link between farmers and ranchers and key provincial and federal decision makers,” said Syhlonyk in a prepared statement.  “Agriculture has a great future and I believe APAS can continue to play a critical role in the development of farming, ranching and community development.  I look forward to the opportunity in assisting the APAS organization and its democratic structure in advancing agriculture.”

Syhlonyk has farmland in the Truax, Sask., area.
