Alberta has officially signed onto the Growing Forward 2 agreement.
The federal and provincial agreement will direct $406 million toward Alberta farmers over the next five years to enhance programs like international market development, food safety, agri-business innovation, research and environmental management.
The funding is part of the $3 billion Growing Forward 2 agreement announced last year and is a continuation of the agreement signed 10 years ago to help diversify agriculture across the country.
“As the province’s largest renewable resource industry, agriculture holds tremendous potential,” said Alberta agriculture minister Verlyn Olson.
“That is what Growing Forward is all about, something that will allow us to remain competitive and stay out on the sharp end of all development. We had already had a lot of success in the lat 10 years,” said Olson during the announcement in Leduc.
