Alberta municipalities receive erosion control funding

Three Alberta rural municipalities will share in $37 million in funding announced by the province today for erosion control projects.

Rocky View County, Mountain View County and the Municipal District of Bighorn have been allocated $1.1 million, $850,000 and $5.7 million, respectively, as part of the provincial response to devastating June floods in the province.

The town of High River, among the hardest hit, will get $2.2 million, Canmore will get $6.2 million, Medicine Hat will get $9.1 million and Calgary will get $12.6 million to carry out various erosion control projects along their rivers and creeks.

The funds were allocated through the Flood Recovery Erosion Control program and will primarily be used for river and creek bank stabilization, repairs to property or infrastructure and development of dikes and berms.

The Alberta government has program funding of $116 million to assist communities affected by flood.
