The chair of the Egg Farmers of Alberta board of directors has been given the Alberta Farm Animal Care award of distinction for communication.
Susan Schafers is an egg farmer from Stony Plain, Alta., and became chair of the EFA board in 2014.
The award, presented March 27, made note of her active role as the public face of the EFA and her contributions in the field of livestock welfare.
“Communicating about farming is not what she does. It’s who she is,” said an AFAC news release about the award.
“Susan is immediately likable and trustworthy, as her authenticity and passion comes bubbling through; traits she undoubtedly inherited from her father, Manfred, who started the family farm and also played an important role in the founding of AFAC.”
