Winnipeg (CNS Canada) – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada included only minor adjustments in their latest supply/demand tables, released on March 22.
The market analysis branch of Agriculture Canada left its production estimates unchanged for the upcoming 2018/19 growing season. Ending stocks of the major grains and oilseeds for 2018/19 were lowered to 13.875 million tonnes, from an earlier forecast of 14.125 million, with an increase in projected domestic corn usage behind much of the change. Grain and oilseed ending stocks for the current 2017/18 marketing year were pegged at 13.910 million tonnes, which were down only slightly from the February forecast of 13.960 million.
Total pulse and special crop ending stocks for both 2017/18 and 2018/19 were revised higher from earlier estimates, with a downward revision to projected lentil exports during the current marketing year behind the adjustments. Total pulse and special crop ending stocks for 2018/19 are now pegged at 2.050 million tonnes, which compares with the February estimate of 1.850 million and the 2017/18 estimate of 2.370 million tonnes.
