Lethbridge College and the provincial Agriculture Financial Services Corp. have developed a partnership involving the college’s agriculture business risk management program.

The college said in an Aug. 21 news release that AFSC “will provide an industry review and subject matter support” to strengthen curriculum for the program.

AFSC will also help develop one of the courses in the risk management program, the news release said.

Instruction from agricultural industry experts is a key part of the new college initiative, which will begin in October.

Government to invest in biofuel production

The federal government will invest $370 million in a new biofuel production incentive.

The first seven courses include:

•    effective communications

•    market fundamentals

•    government policies and marketing

•    statistics or agribusiness

•    introduction to market tools

•    market tools

•    market currencies

The college-AFSC partnership began last month when representatives from each institution gave a presentation to a national crop insurance conference.

“The presentation was very well received, in part for the way the program addresses a business risk management knowledge gap that industry leaders are seeing with existing and prospective clients,” said the news release.

The agriculture business risk management program was developed as part of the Cor Van Raay southern Alberta agribusiness program established last year.
