A record price of $60 per pound was bid for a market lamb raised for a charitable cause at Calgary’s annual 4H on Parade held May 31-June 2.

Each year clubs volunteer to raise a lamb and a steer to be auctioned off  with proceeds going to the charity of the club’s choice.

This year a 100 pound lamb earned $6,000 for the Alberta Children’s Hospital which has a special meaning for Standard Beef Club 4H member, Kylee Hebbes of Strathmore. Born with multiple heart defects and scoliosis, she has spend considerable time at the hospital, starting with her first surgery at nine months of age.

John Lockhart of Calgary was the buyer.

Tracy Hanson of Calgary paid $6.75 a pound for an 1,154 steer raised by the Airdrie Beef Club. Proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
