Help extended for honeybees in Manitoba

Data from the Canadian Association of Professional Apiculturists (CAPA) found that 57 percent of Manitoba bee colonies failed to survive the winter of 2022. That's two or three times higher than the acceptable losses for a beekeeper.

Olds puts Omnipower to the test

Roy Maki is the Smart Farm research manager at Olds and is leading the autonomous agriculture equipment research. When asked about possible financial benefits to the farmer, Maki said that autonomy will be driven primarily by a shortage of capable farm labour.

U.S. corn crop hits headwinds

James Mintert, director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture at Purdue University, said most farmers planted the crop in a timely manner, but it doesn't look that way. He was struck by how late some of the corn looked on a recent crop tour of Indiana.

John Burns says the era of autonomous implements has not yet arrived. He compares them to electric vehicles, whose time has just come too soon. He said there’s little support for robotic vehicles in government regulations or within the industry for completely autonomous vehicles.
