Star power
John Deere has a pair of new precision agriculture products to add to the company’s Greenstar line.An active farm implement guidance system, the iStar is designed to improve the accuracy of seed or fertilizer placement in the soil. That system is designed around a receiver mounted on the farm implement to ensure its precise location in the field and a hydraulic steering system that keeps the ground tools in the correct position in the desired furrow row or between existing ones. This is independent of the A/B line that the tractor is following. The system is designed for straight tracking applications and provides active manual control of implements, which can also be used to move the implement through tight headland turns. For producers who have challenging RTK signal issues due to foliage or rolling terrain, Deere has a new RTK radio that acts as a base station or can be used on a vehicle. It is paired with the Starfire iTC and the Greenstar 2 models 1800 or 2600 of cab display units. It relies on a lower frequency, 450MHz, than the typical 900 MHz units, while still able to work with the higher frequency radios. As a base station, it will communicate at either 900 or 450 depending on how the tractor is set. An optional high gain antenna and 50 watt amplifier are also available. For more information, contact www.deere.com.
