Buhler on Feterl ground

Winnipeg’s Buhler Industries has added two augers to its Backsaver line of Farm King machines.A 12 and 14 inch version of the South Dakota built Feterl auger now carry both white and red paint, depending on the dealer and location. All will bear both the Buhler and Feterl brands.

Buhler purchased the Salem, South Dakota, factory and brand out of bankruptcy earlier this year. The new Farm King augers are built out of 12 gauge tubing, with .25 inch thick flighting material. The 12 inch augers draw from 112 to 122 horsepower and have a hydraulically controlled swing away hopper that sits 10.75 inches high. It has a 540 r.p.m. constant velocity p.t.o. drive. The 14 inch version has a 1,000 r.p.m. p.t.o. CV unit and pulls 126 to 153 h.p.The hopper unit is mechanically driven in both.Unlike the other Backsaver models that depend on top-strung cables to support the big augers, these two have the traditional Feterl superstructure to carry the load below the tube.In transport, the units can have the hopper on either side of the main tube.
