The most recent Canadian grain stock estimates are in line with market expectations. Chinese recovery to drive crude oil price hike

The country’s economic reopening following COVID-19 restrictions is expected to increase demand for the commodity

China is largely responsible for the current upticks in global crude oil prices, according to Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for Oil Price Information Services in Lakewood, New Jersey. He suggested that China’s economy will begin to pick up steam in 2023 after the government loosened its super-tight COVID-19 restrictions. “You can call […] Read more

Uncertain year ahead for oats as price collapses

Falling prices attributed to reluctant buyers as well as greater production resulting from more acres and higher yields

When comparing oat prices at the start of 2023 to those of one year ago, they appear to be night and day.  Despite modest price increases over the past month, some western Canadian oat bids are less than half of what they were last year. In Alberta, the high-delivered bid for oats as of Jan. […] Read more

Mustard prices rise as production increases

Prairie harvest went well with the help of more typical weather conditions last summer and dry conditions in October

If Agriculture Canada’s latest monthly principal field crop estimates hold true, mustard is having a bounce-back year. High prices for the seed led to nearly double the acres planted for the 2022-23 marketing year at 556,000, compared to 289,000 the previous year. As a result, 177,000 tonnes were produced in Canada in 2022, more than […] Read more

Harvest boosts farmers’ grain deliveries

Winnipeg (MarketsFarm) — Farmers are delivering more grains and oilseeds as harvest progresses and that should spark more interest in exports. The latest weekly data from the Canadian Grain Commission reports light export activity for canola through the first six weeks of the 2022-23 crop year, but growing supplies in the commercial pipeline thanks to […] Read more
