An Alberta clipper is pushing across the Prairies today with radar indicating that snow is falling in Manitoba and northern Alberta. The system in Manitoba will push into northwestern Ontario by the afternoon. The system in northern Alberta will continue to move southeastward during the day which will spread snowfall over the Prairies through the day. The system will linger in the eastern Prairies tomorrow before exiting late Friday afternoon. The current weather pattern is conducive to the formation of the clipper systems and they will continue into next week. The next system is expected early next week. Total amounts of precipitation are expected to range between the 5 to 15 mm level (water equivalent) over the next five days.

AM Market Report – April 9, 2026
GOOD MORNING…HERE IS YOUR MORNING MARKET NEWS OVERNIGHT GRAIN TRADE Grain markets are in the green to start this morning….

Temperatures are milder this morning in the western Prairies with temperatures expected to climb close to the freezing mark. This warm-up will be brief with temperatures dropping to the mid negative teens tomorrow and Saturday. Temperatures in the east will remain cold with highs hitting the low negative single digits today before dropping to the negative teens by the weekend. Temperatures will fluctuate next week but will remain cooler than normal. Normal temperatures at this time of year are in the -6C to -10C range.

The main concern with the long-term forecast is that it appears to be extremely consistent from model run to model run. The pattern for December is consistent with cooler than normal temperatures forecast for the Prairie region and much of the U.S. Midwest and northeast. This system is consistent due to a blocking high pressure system in Hudson Bay and a high pressure ridge near the Aleutian islands. This is creating a type of omega block which is relatively stable. This weather pattern will eventually change, but between now and Christmas cold temperatures will prevail.
