Weather is about to change this week as a low pressure system will push through the southern Prairies bringing snow and colder temperatures to the region. Radar this morning shows the low pressure system pushing rain/snow through southern Alberta and parts of southwestern Saskatchewan. The system is expected to move southeastward over the next two days which will being moderate to heavy snow to southern Alberta and parts of southwestern Saskatchewan before dropping into Montana and the Dakota’s. The total amounts of precipitation are expected to amount to 10 to 20 mm of water equivalent precipitation. Trace amounts of snow are expected to fall in the remainder of the Prairies over the next few days.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low negative single digits today and tomorrow before dropping into the low negative single digits. A cold front will plunge into the region on Wednesday with temperatures dropping to the negative mid teens. The cool weather is expected to remain across western Canada through the weekend and into the first week of December. Winter is here to stay across the Prairies.

The long-term forecast remains similar to last week with a major trough expected to remain over the Prairie region through the first week of December. The trough is expected to bring significantly cooler temperatures to the region with daily highs ranging between -10 and -15C range. Snowfall is expected to be light over the period due to the storm track being located in thecentral U.S.
