WINNIPEG (Staff) – For all those who have ever wondered what happens to their wheat, the Canadian Wheat Board has put together 200 answers.

A new cookbook features recipes for food containing wheat, from the humble banana bread to the more exotic Spanish almond torte santiago.

The board recently launched Wheat Foods of the World, created with the help of 47 countries that buy Canadian wheat.

Ed Deen explained the cookbook is part of the board’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Net proceeds from the books will go to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, which collects and ships food aid grain to Third World countries.

Deen said while dishes like Norwegian smoked salmon quiche may sound and taste exotic, the recipes generally call for basic ingredients available at any grocery store. The cookbook costs $19.95 and is published by Prolific Group, 150 Wyatt Rd., Winnipeg, R2X 2X6, 204-694-2300.
