Chevrolet Canada is offering to help parents of aspiring National Hockey Leaguers when they head out to pick up their kids’ first set of hockey equipment.

The automaker is providing gift certificates to parents of children entering their first hockey season to cover the purchase of their first helmet.

“We’re focused on serving our customers and communities, and with more than 400 dealers in communities across Canada, we have the opportunity to make a real impact through this bold new initiative, “ said Rob Assimakopoulos, Chevrolet’s general director of marketing.

Farm transition plans provide clarity

A farm transition plan can provide security, clarity and peace of mind for everyone involved, said Trevor McLean, the national leader of MNP’s TransitionSmart program.

As of Aug. 19, the parents of children born in 2006 who are registered with Hockey Canada for the 2011-2012 season can sign up for the gift certificates at www.chevrolet. hockey.ca.

Parents who register can pick up the certificates at their nearest GM dealer. The certificates cover the purchase of a Bauer hockey helmet at a

designated Sport Chek, Hockey Experts, Sport Mart, InterSport, or Sports Experts store.

Assimakopoulos hopes the program will encourage safety and fair play in this year’s crop of new players.

“Hockey is Canada’s game, and as a longstanding supporter, Chevrolet is encouraging young players to learn the importance of on-ice safety and sportsmanship, making positive change by ensuring they play safe and fun from their first days on skates,” he said.
