Professor awarded
Rick Holm, professor in crop science and plant ecology at the University of Saskatchewan, is the recipient of the 1995 DowElanco excellence in weed science Western Canada award.
A DowElanco news release notes Holm’s contributions to weed science through research, extension and teaching, which have affected development of weed control methods used by Saskatchewan farmers.

The federal agriculture department has established a new source of rural information.
The Canadian Rural Information Service is designed to give information “on economic, environmental and social issues related to rural development and community renewal,” said a government news release.

Dairy awards
More than 230 milk quality achievement awards have been issued to Manitoba milk producers. Although qualifying standards change yearly due to updates in national standards, key factors in getting the awards include dairy operation cleanliness, well-functioning milking equipment, milking procedures and monitoring udder health.
There were 115 gold awards presented this year, and 116 merit certificates. Dairy producers receiving special recognition were:
David and Victor King of Arborg, Woodland Colony of Poplar Point, Curtis and Lorraine Cook of Clanwilliam, Sunnyside Colony Farms of Newton Siding, Allan Houndle of Petersfield, Valyglen Farms of Arborg, Meisner Cousins of Moosehorn, Grenkow Dairy Farms of Winnipeg, Rosser Holsteins of Rosser and Norman Frankemolle of Woodlands.
