The Saskatchewan Forage Council has presented its 2011 Forage Industry Innovation Award to the Southwest Forage Co-operative Association Ltd.
The association started in 1976 and is one of the oldest remaining producer-led forage and grazing associations in Saskatchewan.
It supports forage and grazing research and demonstration in southwestern Saskatchewan and acts as a link between researchers, extension agents and producers.
As an example, the association formed a key partnership with Agriculture Canada’s Semiarid Prairie Agriculture Research Centre near Swift Current, Sask. It buys cattle to be used for grazing research on land owned by the centre and the association.
