Alberta Agriculture has released a new website to guide those interested in joining a value chain.
The website, at www.valuechain.alberta.ca, contains information for livestock and poultry producers on what a value chain is and how to join one, said Pat Ramsay of the department.
Value chains are networks of independent producers, processors, distributors and retailers or food service operators who collaborate to produce and sell into specific markets.
The website provides tools and case studies from around the world to help develop a business partnership as well as financial and marketing advice. It will later add a section on marketing fresh produce and bakery items.
It has 200 resources about value chains in the agriculture and food sector. They have been selected for their relevance and usefulness and are searchable by key words or by sector.
