CAMROSE, Alta. – Women want to be included in government decisions, says the chair of the Alberta Advisory Council on Women’s Issues.
A report released last week urged the government to work harder to include women in public policy decisions.
“It wasn’t meant to be earthshattering. It was to document where women are at and what women wanted,” said Marilyn Fleger.
The report made six recommendations including developing methods to help analyze how legislation, policies and programs differently affect men and women and gaining a better gender balance on provincial committees.

It also recommended each member of the legislature work with local women’s groups and women in their community.
About 400 women in 24 communities from across the province were involved in the discussion, but formal women’s groups were not invited.
The advisory council will be disbanded at the end of the year, which was part of the motivation behind the report, said Fleger.
