As spring approaches and the weather warms, spring road bans are starting to be put in place across Western Canada.
Farmers, truckers and others who operate heavy machinery must be aware of axle weight restrictions put in place on some roads to reduce the damage caused by heavy loads during spring thaw.
Saskatchewan weight restrictions began on some roads in the southwest on March 1. More roads are expected to be added as the season progresses. For more information, visit www.highways.gov.sk.ca/restrictions/.
Alberta also has many road restrictions in place. A list is posted at www.transportation.alberta.ca/522.htm.
Manitoba’s spring road ban is expected to begin March 18 in south. More information can be found at www.gov.mb.ca/mit/srr/dates.html.
