Pulse group elects three board members

The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers board of directors have filled three positions as the new board took over Jan. 11.

Murray Purcell of Pike Lake, Sask., returns for another three-year term, while Dan Flynn of Beechy and Vicki Dutton of Paynton are new members.

  • Purcell is past-chair of the Agriculture Council of Saskatchewan board, vice-president of the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame board, a director and executive member of the Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance board and a member of the Canada Grains Council.
  • Flynn farms with his father, Jim, and has been involved in the family farm since 1999. The family farms 5,500 cultivated acres of which half are seeded to pulse crops. Flynn has a diploma in agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan majoring in crop production.

  • Dutton farms with her husband David. Pulse crops represent 25 to 33 percent of the rotation. In addition to commercial production as pedigreed and select status seed growers, Dutton helps run Western Grain Trade Ltd. She is university educated and has a certificate in horticulture.

Other board members are John Bennett of Biggar, Dwayne Moore of Rosetown, David Nobbs of Kindersley and Jeff Sopatyk of Saskatoon.
