WINNIPEG — Manitoba farm families are being asked to participate in a survey to identify their child-care needs and safety concerns.
Surveys being mailed to 1,000 randomly selected rural households in early March ask families how they care for their children while they work and what types of situations on the farm cause them to worry for their children’s safety.
Lois Brockman, co-ordinator of the survey, said the results will be used to assess existing assistance programs, such as the child-care registry implemented by the Manitoba Women’s Institute two years ago.
It will also help that organization and others determine what more must be done, she said.
The survey is being conducted by the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Human Ecology in conjunction with the Manitoba Women’s Institute and Rural Development Institute. Participants are asked to complete the survey and return it within two weeks of its receipt.
