Agricultural companies figured prominently at the Saskatchewan Achievement in Business Excellence Awards Oct. 25.
The Mosaic Company was named Saskatchewan business of the year at the event sponsored by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
Mosaic, formed in 2004 by the merger of IMC Global and Cargill Crop Nutrition, is a worldwide producer of fertilizer. It has three potash mines in Saskatchewan and was, until recently, co-owner of the Saskferco nitrogen plant at Belle Plaine, Sask. It employs 1,500 people in the province.
Its highest profile community assistance is with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, where its sponsorship led to the renaming of Taylor field to Mosaic Stadium. However, it has also supported many projects in small town Saskatchewan including a volunteer fire department, hospitals, school breakfast programs, town hall renovations and an arts festival.

The exporter of the year award went to Seed Hawk of Langbank, manufacturer of seeding equipment, for its work developing markets in Australia, Ukraine and Russia.
This category was dominated by agricultural companies. Also nominated were Farmer’s Direct Co-operatives of Regina, Power Pin Inc. of Fort Qu’Appelle, Alliance Grain of Regina and BorderLine Feeders of Ceylon.
In the business leader of the year category, Murad Al-Katib of Alliance Grain was nominated.
