Farmers with high levels of fusarium in their hard red spring wheat will be able to sell it through a new Canadian Wheat Board program.

The board will offer a delivery contract for Canada western red spring (CWRS) wheat grading No. 2, 3 or 4 containing high levels of fusarium.

The contract provides 100 percent acceptance and a delivery guarantee over three separate delivery periods in the crop year.

A similar program was introduced for CW red winter wheat several weeks ago.

  • For No. 2 CWRS, the price will be discounted based on fusarium levels above the one percent maximum tolerance allowed under Canadian Grain Commission rules, up to a maximum of two percent.
  • For No. 3 and 4 CWRS, the payment will reflect a discount based on the difference above the maximum of two percent up to a maximum of five percent.

The sign-up period, which began Oct. 9, will run until the beginning of November or when the program is filled.
