Where’s the election coverage?

The Western Producer website, www. producer.com, will play a major role in the newspaper’s election coverage next week, for unusual reasons.

Federal elections are usually held on Mondays, a fortunate fact in terms of Western Producer print coverage.

In years past, the Producer was able to bring readers election reaction in the Thursday paper that followed a Monday election.

India slaps 30 per cent import duty on yellow peas

India has imposed a 30 per cent duty on yellow pea imports with a bill of lading date on or after Nov. 1, 2025.

Not so for next week’s election, which falls on Tuesday, Oct. 14, immediately after the Thanksgiving statutory holiday.

The holiday, press schedules and Canada Post delivery times related to Thanksgiving will prevent the Producer from bringing you its usual agriculture-related election coverage in the Oct. 16 issue.

Delaying publication of that issue to accommodate election coverage would also delay delivery of your newspaper, with its other agricultural news and popular classified ad section, and that is an unacceptable compromise.

That’s where www. producer.com enters the picture in a larger way. Our reporters and editors will be on the job on election night, gathering photos and news stories related to this major national event.

We’ll be posting those stories to our website on the night of Oct. 14 and the morning of Oct. 15.

We hope you will check our site to get the agricultural perspectives on the election that we believe this newspaper is uniquely capable of providing.

As a Producer reader, you may find the Oct. 16 issue strangely bereft of election stories. However, the website and subsequent issues will hopefully fill the informational gaps.
