EDMONTON – A mixed grain and cattle producer has been elected president of Alberta’s general farm organization.
Humphrey Banack of Round Hill, Alta., was elected president of Wild Rose Agricultural Producers during the organization’s annual meeting in Edmonton Jan. 9.
The former second vice-president said one of his first goals is to raise the profile of WRAP among Alberta farmers.
“I want to make it more plausible to farmers,” he said.
Banack believes there is a need for a general farm organization in Alberta, but it’s difficult to maintain it without assured funding.

One of his goals is to continue the work of previous presidents and convince the provincial government to allow the organization to have a checkoff, which would provide assured funding.
Of significant importance is working with existing commodity groups, which are allowed to collect a checkoff.
Banack said his children are no longer at home and he has the time to devote to the job.
“I have some time and I believe it’s time for Wild Rose to move one step ahead. It was time, if I was going to do it.”
