Gas rates down in Alberta
Due to the low cost of natural gas, the Alberta government will not issue natural gas rebates in October, which is the first winter month of the province’s 2007-08 natural gas rebate program.
Under the program, rebates to natural gas customers are triggered when provincially regulated natural gas providers charge rates above $5.50 per gigajoule.
Rebate amounts increase as the price of natural gas rises, with the maximum cost of natural gas to most Alberta consumers capped at $8.75 per gigajoule.

The natural gas rebate program runs from October to March for most residential consumers.
Albertans use about 80 percent of their natural gas during this period.
In addition to natural gas, the program provides rebates to residents who heat with propane, kerosene, heating oil, and in certain circumstances, electricity.
