Manitoba

East

  • Cereal and canola harvest is complete. Flax is more than 85 percent complete. Corn, sunflower and soybean harvest continues.
  • Good progress on field cultivation.
  • Volunteer re-growth is heavy, requiring two cultivations.
  • Pastures are poor.

Central

Interlake

  • Many producers are finished fall harvest. Cereal harvest is complete and canola is nearly complete with average yields of 20 to 30 bu. per acre.
  • Flax harvest is about 50 percent complete with yields in the range of 20-25 bu. per acre.
  • Field tillage and herbicide weed control is well underway.
  • Corn, soybeans and sunflowers are being combined.
  • Pastures are fair.

West

  • Cereal harvest is nearly complete throughout the west with about 30 percent of canola fields remaining.
  • Lower bushel weight for cereals reported, with small seeds and lower yields than expected in canola.
  • Pastures are fair in the south and good in the northwest.

Alberta

South

  • Showers have slowed harvest operations. Cereal and canola harvest nearly complete.
  • Yields have been good overall but below what was expected.
  • Barley yields are down because of heat-shrunken heads.
  • Sugar beet harvest has begun and potato harvesting is in full swing.
  • Corn silage yields are equal to better than last year.
  • Pastures are poor to fair.

Central

  • Rain showers delayed harvest.
  • Harvest of all crops is 30 to 60 percent complete depending on the area and rainfall.
  • Yields average to above average.
  • Pastures are in good condition.

North

  • Harvest continues with some areas slowed by showers.
  • Yields are average with wheat at 40 to 50 bu. per acre, canola 30 to 45 bu. per acre and barley 30 to 60 bu. per acre.
  • Pastures are in good condition.

Peace River

  • About 20 percent of fields have been combined.
  • Showers have slowed combining progress.
  • Hard frosts are reported.
  • Cereal yields are just above average while canola yields are average.
  • Pastures are in good condition.

Saskatchewan

South

  • Harvest is more than 90 percent complete for cereals and canola. Flax harvest is about 50 percent complete.
  • Winter wheat emergence has been delayed due to dry soil conditions.
  • Yields are average to below average and quality is good.
  • Pastures are poor.

Central

  • Showers have delayed harvest.
  • East-central areas are 60 percent complete for all crops while more progress has been made in the West where more than 80 percent has been combined.
  • Canola yields continue to be variable ranging from poor to a bumper crop.
  • Duck and geese crop damage is reported.
  • Winter wheat seeding continues.
  • Pastures range from fair to

good.

North

  • Showers, snow flurries and frost have delayed harvest.
  • About 35 percent of cereals and 40 percent of canola have been harvested.
  • Quality downgrading is reported due to sprouting and bleaching in cereals. Yields continue to be variable.
  • Fall tillage and herbicide weed control continues.
