MANITOBA

East

  • Showers last week revived crops, but corn, sunflowers and soybeans still need moisture.
  • Winter wheat harvest nearly done. Slightly above average yields but some quality issues.
  • Barley combining is occurring and yields look slightly below average.
  • Canola swathing is starting, with a higher incidence of aster yellows.
  • Pasture conditions are deteriorating.

Central

  • Harvest underway on early seeded wheat.
  • Barley swathing and combining have

started. Oats maturing.

Interlake

  • Green clover worm reported in soybeans.

West

  • More than 25 millimetres of rain fell last week, with high temperatures reported. Severe hailstorms caused damage to crops around Dauphin, Gilbert Plains and Grandview.
  • Winter wheat, rye and pea harvests have started, with average yields.
  • Spring wheat, barley, oats, flax and canola are about two weeks from maturity.
  • Some spraying for bertha armyworms.
  • Second cut haying has started.

SASKATCHEWAN

South

  • Showers were reported, with hail and wind damage in spots. Heat lowered yield potential.
  • Winter wheat and peas are being harvested and rye is being cut.
  • Some grasshopper damage is reported.
  • Second cut hay is underway. Pasture

conditions deteriorating.

Central

  • Winter wheat and field peas have been desiccated and canola swathing has begun.
  • Spotty hail severely damaged some crops.
  • Second cut hay and silage is underway.
  • Bertha armyworm and diamondback moth pressure is variable with some spraying being done.
  • Aster yellows frequency is high in canola.

West

  • Peas and lentils are being harvested, with high variability due to hail.
  • Winter wheat is nearing harvest completion, with average yields.
  • Canola swathing in full swing.
  • The heat has hurt crops, especially later seeded ones. Durum is showing heat stress.
  • Pasture conditions deteriorating.

East

  • Cereals are ripening quickly, with some barley swathed and a bit of early barley harvested.
  • Oilseeds are ripening, with swathing well underway.
  • Field peas are largely harvested. Lentil

harvest is starting.

  • Scouting for bertha armyworm continues. Sawfly damage starting to appear. Aphid

populations are high in canaryseed.

  • Soil moisture is poor.

ALBERTA

South

  • Harvest is in full swing around Lethbridge with silage nearing completion on cereal crops.
  • Showers around Lethbridge and rain around Calgary revived later crops.
  • Pea and winter wheat harvest started north and east towards Saskatchewan, with above average yields in spots that received rain in July.
  • Canola swathing started.
  • Spraying is underway for lygus in canola.
  • Pasture and hay shortages reported in southern areas.

Central

  • Peas are being combined.
  • Second cut hay is just starting.
  • Canola insect pressure is reported, with limited spraying.
  • Highway 2 corridor is green, with average to above average yield potential. Early seeded wheat might have frost damage.

North

  • Frost was reported in La Crete.
  • Good growing conditions were observed, with second cut hay in full swing.
  • Lygus bugs are a concern.

Peace River

  • Rain delayed timothy and fescue harvest.
  • Scattered showers and heavy rain around Grande Prairie, with frost reported.
  • Some first cut hay still being taken.
  • Canola yield potential highly variable.
