The Canadian Wheat Board has increased 2006-07 initial payments for wheat, durum and malting barley.
The increases for wheat range from $6.90 to $31.25 a tonne, depending on class and grade.
For durum, the increases range from $13.50 to $31.25 per tonne, and for designated barley the increase is $10 a tonne for all types and grades.
The new initial payments represent 82.9 percent of the 2006-07 Pool Return Outlook for No. 1 CWRS 12.5 percent wheat, 79.1 percent for No. 1, 12.5 percent durum, 89.7 percent for special select two-row barley and 89.5 percent for SS six-row barley.
Adjustment payments will be mailed April 13 or direct deposited April 10 to farmers who have delivered those grains to the board between Aug. 1, 2006, and March 28, 2007.
Farmers who want to defer payments have until April 3 to notify the board.
