Top seed growers honoured at pedigreed show

The Seager Wheeler Pedigreed Show winners were announced during the Western Canadian Crop Production Show held in Saskatoon Jan. 8-11.

In the cereals category, Wagon Wheel Seed Corp. of Churchbridge, Sask., was named the grand champion cereal winner for its sample of the hard red spring wheat variety Infinity. Wagon Wheel also won first in the hard red spring wheat class.

Barry Reisner of Limerick, Sask., won the hard white spring wheat class using the Snowbird variety.

An AC Navigator sample from Joe and Bill Rennick of Milestone, Sask., won for best durum.

L.R. and Donna Edwards of Nokomis, Sask., won the extra strong and prairie spring wheat class with the variety AC Andrew.

In winter wheat, Lorne Fell of Staffa, Ont., won first for his sample of AC MacKinnon.

In the winter and spring rye and triticale class, Wagon Wheel Seed Corp. won for its AC Ultima variety.

Hetland Seeds of Naicam, Sask., won first in the six-row barley competition for a sample of Tradition.

In two-row barley, Fast Seed Farm Ltd. of Kindersley, Sask., claimed first place for its AC Metcalfe sample.

Fast Seed Farm also won first in canaryseed for its CDC Togo sample.

In the oats class, Hetland Seeds claimed first place with a CDC Baler sample.

In the oilseeds category, Rod and Cathy Fedoruk of Kamsack, Sask., won the grand champion oilseeds title and placed first in the flax-linola category with their AC Lightning variety.

Les and Wendy Trowell of Saltcoats, Sask., won first in the canola class for their 32-75 Argentine sample.

In the pulse sample categories, Les and Wendy Trowell placed first in the yellow field peas class for their sample of SW Midas.

Greenleaf Seeds Ltd. of Tisdale, Sask., won the green field peas class for a sample of Cooper.

Bews Agro of Eatonia, Sask., won for best maple field peas for their CDC Acer variety.

Paul Rogg of Pennant, Sask., was named grand champion pulse winner for a sample of CDC Viceroy lentils. He also won the lentil class with the same sample.

Lorne Fell won the edible dry bean class for a sample of Nautica.

Kevin Travland of Coronach, Sask., won the kabuli chickpea class for his sample of CDC Frontier.

Allan Beckett of Garrick, Sask., was selected the grand champion forage seed grower for his sample of Alma, which also won first place in the timothy class.

Allan Kushniruk of Melville, Sask., won the alfalfa seed category with his sample of AC Longview.

Troy Scowen of Nipawin, Sask., won the fescue seed class with Cosmolit.

In the wheatgrass class, John, Brent and Ross Trawin of Melfort, Sask., won for their sample of A.C. Goliath. The threesome also won the meadow bromegrass category for a sample of Fleet.
