Five Canadian women involved in agriculture could be the winners of a new Farm Credit Canada award.
The Rosemary Davis Award will send five winners to Chicago, Ill., to participate in the 2007 Athena International conference.
The conference focuses on building strong leadership skills and provides networking opportunities for women.
“We’ve opened it up to anyone to nominate a woman who’s worked in agriculture, who’s passionate about the industry, (and who) serves as a role model,” said FCC spokesperson Tim Kydd.
The award will be given to Canadian women older than 21 years who work in an agricultural or rural community. The FCC is looking for contestants who have given back to their communities and have shown innovation in their work, Kydd said.

The Rosemary Davis Award is named for the first female chair of the FCC, an agribusiness owner and operator with more than 30 years of experience in the agricultural business.
The application or nomination deadline for the award is midnight Feb. 1, 2007.
