The Canadian Farmers With Disabilities Registry needs one more person to complete a full hand of 10 provincial leaders.

The registry is looking for someone to represent it in Alberta, said chair Carl Palmer of Nova Scotia. All the other provinces have volunteer leaders who have sustained an agriculture injury.

Volunteers from the registry offer practical information about the challenges faced by those who are injured or disabled and who wish to keep farming.

Besides peer support, the registry tracks where and how farm injuries happen and the types of disabilities sustained. It lobbies government and equipment manufacturers and society in general about necessary changes to prevent such injuries.

Palmer said there are 350 members in the registry. Funding for the group comes from companies and the federal government.

For more information, call Palmer at 902-847-9420 or e-mail carl.palmer@ns.sympatico.ca.
