FARGO, N.D. – Demand for rubber track sprayers has jumped as more producers become savvy to the advantages of getting their spraying done on time, even in wet conditions, says a Minnesota sprayer manufacturer.

According to RedBall, growing farmer demand for rubber track sprayers within the last year has prompted it to make this option available on its pull-type sprayers.

RedBall said the superior flotation of rubber tracks allows a producer to spray even in standing water. Waiting for dry ground often puts the spraying operation weeks behind the appropriate window, with the consequence of severe crop damage.

If the water has not damaged the plants, spraying in wet conditions can have the same positive effect as spraying in normal conditions. However, spraying with tires can create a mess in the field.

While RedBall conceded the track system is prone to the typical ground tearing in tight turns that all track systems experience, it also said a 120 foot or 132 foot boom eliminates the need for tight turns in the headlands.

Rather than design its own rubber track system, RedBall buys complete track units from Fargo Products. These are fitted with a standard 16 inch wide skid steer belt in lengths of 120 inches, 144 inches or 152 inches.

The heaviest load likely to be tackled by a RedBall sprayer would be a model 690 with 2,000 gallons of liquid fertilizer. According to Fargo Products, this load would exert nine pounds per sq. inch pressure on the soil.

The model 690 with the 2,000 gallon tank and rubber track undercarriage sells for $50,680 US.
