MANITOBA

Eastern

  • Spring cereal harvest is nearly complete with better than average yield and quality.
  • Canola harvest has begun with 20 to 40 bushels per acre yields.
  • Heat and drought caused pod and flower abortion in soybeans, resulting in a highly variable crop.
  • Sunflower and corn crops are in good condition.
  • Pastures show signs of drought recovery due to recent rain.

Interlake

Central

  • Cereal harvest is 30 to 70 percent complete with average wheat yields of 35 to 55 bu. per acre, barley 60 to 115 and oats 65 to 120.
  • Peas and early canola are averaging 40 to 50 bu. per acre.
  • Protein of 12.5 percent in wheat is common, with some downgrading for ergot.
  • Sunflower, potato and corn crops all have good yield potential.
  • Pasture conditions are poor with pasture feeding underway.

Southwest

  • Rain is delaying harvest.
  • Spring wheat yields are 25 to 40 bu.

per acre with barley 45 to 65 and oats up

to 70.

  • Overall crop yields are less than average.
  • Pastures are poor but improving.

Northwest

  • Winter wheat yields were up to 65 bu. per acre.
  • Spring cereal harvest is 25 percent complete.
  • Pastures are poor.
  • Bertha armyworm damage found in Minnedosa and Russell areas.

SASKATCHEWAN

Southeast

  • Heat and drought have reduced yield expectations in the region.
  • In the Regina plains, slightly better than average crops are encountered.
  • Pulse crop harvest is nearly complete with peas yielding 25 to 45 bu. per acre, lentils 1,500 to 2,500 pounds and barley 60 to 90 bu. per acre.
  • Smut and rust are common in cereals.

Northeast

  • Fall cereal harvest is underway with average to below average yields.
  • Canola, barley and wheat are all being swathed with higher than average yield expectations.
  • Bertha armyworms and sclerotinia are reported.
  • Pastures are poor with pasture feeding ongoing.

East-central

  • Crops are maturing rapidly with cereals turning.
  • Pea yields were good at between 50 and 60 bu. per acre.
  • Above average canola crop is expected.
  • Wheat midge and Bertha armyworm damage reported.
  • Pastures have returned to average condition.

West-central

  • 10 percent is harvested.
  • Sawfly damage and lodging are serious.
  • Pastures are in good condition.

Southwest

  • Early crop yields are good while later crops are poor.
  • Durum yields are 40 to 55 bu. per acre.
  • Chickpeas are ripening.
  • Pastures are improving to near average condition.

Northwest

  • Rain has delayed harvest.
  • Swathing is underway.
  • Pastures are improving due to rains.

ALBERTA

South

  • Dryland harvest is concluding.
  • Irrigated land harvest has started.
  • High quality durum crops taken.
  • Early seeded canola crops yielding well.
  • Dry bean swathing and sweet corn harvest will start this week.
  • Sawfly damage is severe in some areas.
  • Pastures are poor.

Central

  • Rain is delaying swathing and threshing.
  • Wind has damaged swaths.
  • Pastures are good.

North

  • Rain has delayed harvest.
  • Pea harvest is underway with less than average results due to heat.
  • Bertha armyworm damage is reported. Flea beetles are feeding on canola pods.
  • Pastures are fair to very good.

Peace River

  • Early pea crops are being harvested.
  • Cereals and canola are starting to be swathed.
  • Yields are generally below average.
  • Pastures are fair to good.
