New CWB Tokyo official
The Canadian Wheat Board has a new general manager at its Tokyo office.
Derek Sliworsky, who will take over from David Iwaasa this summer, had been based in the wheat board’s Winnipeg office, where he sold wheat into the Asia Pacific region.
The Tokyo office handles wheat sales of about $400 million a year to Japan and complements operations of the board’s office in Beijing, China.
Range management award
Michel Tremblay, provincial forage crop specialist with Saskatchewan Agriculture, has been awarded the Society for Range Management’s outstanding achievement award.

Also receiving the award were Ted and Olive Perrin of Beechy, Sask. The Perrins owns and operate the 12,775-acre Castleland Ranch in the northern mixed prairie region.
The society is dedicated to the conservation and sustainable management of rangelands for future generations.
Counterfeit product
Bioniche Life Sciences Inc. is warning about a counterfeit version of one of its animal health products.
Hippiron 1000 fully complies with regulatory standards and is safe for use as recommended. Bioniche sells the injectable iron-sucrose product exclusively to veterinarians and it is the only licensed product of its kind available for veterinary use in Canada.
The company is warning horse owners to avoid Hippiron 1000 that is not sold by a veterinarian or veterinary clinic. At least one horse in Ontario has died and two more have had serious reactions following the administration of a counterfeit product bought from a feed store.
Health Canada is investigating the source of the counterfeit product.
New cattle officials
The British Columbia Cattlemen’s Association has a new executive: Ed Salle of Barriere, president; Roland Baumann of Vanderhoof, vice-president, and Mark Nairn of Riske Creek, past-president.
Other executive members include Bill Bentley of Progress, Judy Guichon of Quilchena, Art Devick of Heffley Creek and Rod Savage of Cranbrook.
