New SWP director

Thomas Chambers has been appointed to the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool board of directors.

He is a professional accountant, senior executive, corporate director and business adviser and has worked for 26 years as a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Through Senior Partner Services Ltd., Chambers acts as an adviser and director to several companies. He will serve as a member on the pool’s audit committee.

New marketing chair

Larry McIntosh has been elected incoming chair of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association.

StatCan stands by its model-based crop forecast

Statistics Canada’s model-based production estimates are under scrutiny, but agency says it is confident in the results.

McIntosh is president and chief executive officer of Peak of the Market, a grower-owned vegetable supply company based in Manitoba. He will assume the chair’s duties at the CPMA convention in Montreal next May and will remain in office for one year.

CPMA co-ordinates marketing efforts for fresh fruit and vegetables. It focuses on emerging technology, food safety, government relations, conventions, marketing and promotion.

Name the foal

The RCMP is asking for the public’s help in naming six foals that will be born this spring at its breeding farm in Pakenham, Ont.

Some of these horses may one day be part of the RCMP’s musical ride.

Suggested names will be accepted from participants 14 years and younger. To qualify, the suggested names must meet the following criteria:

  • Names must begin with the letter “D” and must be between one and six letters long.
  • Entries must be accompanied by the entrant’s name, age, address and telephone number, and the suggested name on a piece of paper.
  • Entries must be received or postmarked no later than July 3 and must be mailed to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

For school entries, please write “school entry” on the envelope.

The winning entries will receive a number of RCMP prizes.

Winners will be announced Aug. 1, and names will be posted on the RCMP website. Winning names will be chosen by RCMP musical ride instructors.
