Chainsaw sawmill

The Norwood PortaMill, along with a chainsaw and household ladder, allows users to make dimensional lumber such as 2x4s or 6x6s in their back yard.

The PortaMill operates with a hand-push feed system and uses a chainsaw as the sawhead. The cutting depth can be adjusted by turning the sawhead to adjust crank the handle. To begin cutting, engage the throttle and push the saw through the cut.

The PortaMill can handle logs up to 35 centimetres in diameter. Raw lumber can be as long as the ladder permits. Norwood’s PortaMill sells for $1,195, plus shipping and handling.

Conditioning rolls for JD

John Deere has introduced Tri-Lobe steel conditioning rolls as factory installed options for the 994 and 995 platforms on the JD 4995 self-propelled windrowers.

“The rolls have three intermeshing chevron lobes that condition the length of the crop stem for better dry-down,” said Doug Stogdill with John Deere.

The steel rolls are designed for durability and aggressive intermeshing lobes give positive feeding and improved crop flow.

The shafts are forged and machined, which enables the rolls to be set to a minimum roll gap, perfectly square for the entire length of the rolls.

Tri-Lobe steel rolls are especially suited for use in alfalfa and help reduce curing time because of the full-stem conditioning.
