Biodiesel group formed
Brad Hanmer has been elected chair of the newly created Biodiesel Association of Canada.
He is vice-president of the Saskatchewan Canola Growers Association.
The biodiesel association consists of members of the Canadian Canola Growers Association, Canadian Oilseed Processors Association, Ontario Soybean Association and the Canadian Renderers Association.
The biodiesel association uses funding from member organizations to research, market and develop the Canadian biodiesel industry.
AAMD&C joins coalition
The Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties has joined the Farmer Rail Car Coalition.
The association represents 68 rural municipalities in Alberta.
The coalition is an organization working to have control of the federal government’s 13,000 rail hopper cars turned over to farmers.
Other coalition members include Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan, Alberta Pulse Growers, Family Farm Foundation, Hudson Bay Route Association, Keystone Agricultural Producers, Manitoba Pulse Growers Association, National Farmers Union, Prairie Producer Car Shippers Association, Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Association, Southern Rail Co-operative, West Central Road and Rail Ltd., Wild Rose Agricultural Producers and Winter Cereals Canada.
Animal care plan
Alberta Farm Animal Care has an emergency livestock care response plan designed to help producers who are having trouble caring for their animals in the wake of last year’s drought and the fallout of bovine spongiform encephalopathy.
Producers having difficulties should call AFAC’s animal care alert line at 800-506-2273.
The emergency livestock care re-sponse plan ensures proper on-site care by a response team. It also helps producers who need crisis support for livestock care with counselling and a support network. It ensures sufficient feed and bedding is available for use in animal seizures and surrenders.
More than 11 experienced livestock producers and handlers assist with the alert phone line.
