Horse stall
A new horse stall is available from Behlen Livestock Equipment Group.
The Horseman’s Choice stall includes a child-level feed door, vertical bar partitions and smooth edges to prevent injury to animals and people.
The swing-out door is designed to allow easy feeding and watering and the low-cut door sill allows children to reach feeders and waterers attached to the back of the door and inside the stall without entering.
The frame is made from heavy gauge, five centimetre round tubing and the vertical partitions are solid 1.25 cm rod, allowing more space for viewing and air flow.

Parasite control
A recently registered pour-on product to control cattle parasites and nematodes promises better broad spectrum control.
Cydectin from Ayerst Veterinary Laboratories in Guelph, Ont. is the first new endectocide in a decade. The active ingredient is moxidectin, a molecule derived from an organism that is different from the one used to produce ivermectins.
Cydectin pour-on prevents reinfestation by key cattle nematodes for up to 28 days. After it is applied, it is stored in the animal’s fat and released into the blood stream slowly, providing sustained protection against parasites.
It also protects against gastrointestinal roundworms, lungworm, grubs, mange mites, biting and sucking lice.
Tests by Agriculture Canada’s Lethbridge Research Centre found the treatment to be 100 percent effective against warbles.
It has a vegetable oil-based formulation that adheres to hair and skin and remains effective even on animals caught in the rain shortly after application. The product is safe around heat and flame.
Cydectin requires a 36-day waiting period before cattle are shipped for slaughter. It is available only through a veterinarian and also comes in an injectable form.
