Bin probe and garbage wagon

G.O. Welding and Manufacturing has developed a new bin probe that provides a sample from inside the bin without the operator having to climb a ladder.

The Easy Probe is 1.5 metres (60 inches) long and is tilted in the bin at a 45 degree angle, which means the end is about a metre (36 inches) from the wall.

The mechanism opens a gate inside, allowing the grain to travel down the shaft to a sample container.

A cable mechanism allows the probe to be placed at different levels in the bin.

Potato herbicide approved

ÊÊDuPont Canada has received registration for Prism, a post-emergent herbicide for use on irrigated potatoes in Western Canada.

The herbicide, in the sulfonylurea family of chemicals, is designed to control grasses and broadleaf weeds. It can be used from emergence until just before the start of flowering.

It has one use rate of 60 grams per hectare and a 480-gram jug treats 20 acres. It is designed to break down quickly in the soil, resulting in no recropping concerns, DuPont says.

Tank-mix registered

A minor use registration was recently granted for a tank-mix of trifluralin (Treflan EC) and metribuzin (Sencor 75 DF) for broad spectrum weed control in newly planted shelterbelts.

It is registered for use with caragana, green ash, chokecherry, villosa lilac, rooted poplar, saskatoon berry and sea buckthorn.

It is not for use with non-rooted poplar cuttings because it will inhibit rooting.
