Cultivator comes in three sizes

Free Form Plastic Products has a new line of rugged three-point hitch cultivators for the 25-65 horsepower tractor range.

These cultivators are offered in three sizes – five foot three inch, six foot nine inch and eight foot three inch. The smallest base unit can be equipped with extension kits to increase size if the customer trades up to a larger tractor.

The model 1000 cultivators have nine-inch shank spacing and can accommodate sweeps up to 11 inches wide. Shanks are 7/8 of an inch and accept 47 degree sweeps.

VIDEO: Green Lightning and Nytro Ag win sustainability innovation award

Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.

These cultivators can be equipped with an optional set of gauge wheels. Depth control is important, especially with the smaller horsepower compact tractors, which often lack proper draft control.

Because they are used with smaller horsepower tractors, they have a lower ground-to-pin height. This 16-inch height allows the unit to be properly lifted out of the ground.

Category 1 pins and the top linkage pin are standard equipment.

Fungicide approved

After three years of special emergency use, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency has approved Quadris foliar fungicide for control of early blight in potatoes.

Quadris protects against early blight fungus, and also protects the entire plant, including new growth.

Called xylem mobility, this feature uses the plant’s internal circulation system to distribute Quadris for complete crop protection.

Quadris is a member of the new strobilurin family of fungicides. It should be applied early in the disease cycle as a protectant or at the first sign of early blight.

The company says Quadris should be incorporated into a disease management program in conjunction with Bravo 500 for total foliar disease protection.

Quadris is also approved for use on tomatoes to control early blight and anthracnose.

Grasshoppers controlled

Dibrom insecticide from United Agri-Products is registered for control of grasshoppers on range, pasture and dairy and horse paddocks without the need to remove livestock.

It is registered for aerial and ground application. Two rates are registered for young and adult grasshoppers.

Repeat applications are recommended when hoppers move from adjacent areas or a new hatch occurs after application.

The product works through contact and ingestion by the insect. It does not have systemic activity.

It will also reduce the number of flies and mosquitos in the treated area.

A safer beetle killer

Dow AgroSciences’ Success 480 SC is the first product registered in the new Naturalyte class of insect control.

It controls Colorado potato beetles. The company says Naturalyte’s environmental and human safety profile is similar to biological products such as Bt and is as effective, or better than, conventional insecticides.

The active ingredient is spinosad, produced by fermentation of natural bacteria.

The initial application window for Success 480 SC is from the beetle’s first egg hatch to the 1/4 inch long larvae stage. Depending on the severity of the infestation, a second application may be needed seven to 10 days later.

The quantity of the product available this year is limited.
