Windrower
MacDon has introduced a taller, stronger version of the existing MacDon-built turbo windrower for improved windrowing performance in tall crops such as canola.
The unit provides four inches more ground clearance, thanks to its larger 24-inch bar or field and turf tire packages.
The bar tires feature a 75 percent deeper lug (13/4 inches) for improved traction in mud and wet soil. Both bar style and field and turf tire packages feature a larger footprint for reduced soil compaction and a more comfortable ride.

The new turbo windrower also features a higher reduction ratio in the final drive, which produces five percent more torque than available on the existing model.
This, combined with improved traction, delivers better performance on hills and in mud. The higher reduction ratio also extends the service life of the drive.
The rear walking beam is higher and stronger and is able to accommodate the added load created when using rear weight ballast or the optional tank on MacDon’s 675 field sprayer attachment.
There are also heavy-duty drive wheels, allowing the tractor to support up to 80 percent heavier loads.
The beam’s rear castors have also been beefed up with heavy-duty spindles. The new lift linkage delivers an additional four inches of header clearance.
The windrowers are available at John Deere (Premier), New Holland (Prairie Star), and Westward dealers.

Farm emergency book
The Canadian Farm Business Management Council has published a new farm emergency handbook.
While urban residents can count on municipal emergency services for help, farmers are often on their own at first when disaster strikes.
The book has more than 200 pages to help producers establish emergency plans to deal with disasters such as power outages, floods, blizzards, tornadoes, fires and earthquakes.
Checklists and work exercises help set out responsibilities, plans, equipment and supplies needed to survive the disaster and recover afterward.
More than 60,000 copies have been printed and are distributed through the council, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and several industry partners.
Hard copies of Planning for and Responding to Disasters in Canada are also available by contacting the council at 903-75 Albert St., Ottawa, Ont., K1P 5E7 or phoning 888-232-3262. Versions can also be downloaded from the council’s website at www.farmcentre.com.
