Livestock waterer

SPI Industries has a new polyethylene livestock waterer.

The L Tip Tank has a universal floor and wall mounting bracket system. The built-in handle acts as the locking system.

It is easy to clean and maintenance free.

The float and valve system is at the centre back of the tank, giving livestock good access.

The double wall construction reduces the chance of water freezing.

It holds 121 litres and is appropriate for a maximum of 100 beef animals or 50 dairy cows.

Apple insecticide

A new biologically based insecticide is available for controlling oblique banded leafrollers on apples.

Dow AgroSciences has received registration for Success 480 SC, the first product in a new class of naturalyte insect controls.

The company said naturalytes are similar to biological products such as Bacillus thuringiensis and are as effective as or better than conventional insecticides.

They are considered safe for humans and the environment, and do not harm ladybird beetles, lacewings, spiders or predatory mites. The active ingredient in Success is spinosad. It is produced by fermentation of natural bacteria.

It controls several important insects that attack apples and other crops. It acts quickly through ingestion and contact.

Trilogy is not a product of genetic transfer.
