Seed treater
Bourgault has introduced a new seed treatment system for air seeders that is capable of treating seed on the go.
Because the mixing is done before the seed enters the air stream, the Seed Pro-Tech 99 is compatible with both single and double shoot application modes. It features an accurate piston pump that is directly coupled to the metering screw. The system is then automatically compensated for ground speed.
The unit is compatible with the Bourgault electronic variable rate control systems.
It will soon be available as a retrofit kit for all existing air seeders made by the company.

Disc mower
New Holland has introduced the Model 1432
Discbine disc mower conditioner for faster crop drydown. The unit uses 120 independent flails to pick the crop off the cutterbar and rub it together and against the adjustable conditioning hood. The action removes the crop’s waxy layer and promotes fast drydown.
A cutting width of four metres (13 feet) can lay down a swath 2.4 metres (eight feet)wide or produce windrows as narrow as one metre (three feet) wide. A two speed flail rotor allows for a standard slower speed for lighter conditioning of alfalfa or an optional higher speed kit for aggressively conditioning grass crops. It has a 10-disc cutter bar.

BASF improvements
BASF has several herbicide improvements for 1999.
Flax Max Ultra herbicide is a more concentrated formula allowing for less product packaging and easier handling.
It uses high concentrate Poast Ultra with the adjuvant Merge and FlaxMax. The one-pass system attacks all major broadleaf and grass weeds.
BASF has also received approval to expand the Accord label to include barley.
Accord’s main features are superior control of foxtail, including Group 1 and 3 resistant types, as well as season-long control of cleavers and volunteer flax.
Banvel Two with an improved formulation has been registered for cereals and corn.
It is less volatile and can be sprayed close to oilseeds and specialty crops. The company said it is a good pre-plant partner when mixed with Roundup for conservation tillage.
