Potato insecticide
Fulfill insecticide from Syngenta Crop Protection Canada, Inc. has been approved for use in potatoes to control aphids.
Fulfill quickly stops aphid feeding with contact and systemic protection.
Because aphids transmit diseases, Fulfill helps to protect against potato leaf roll virus.
Fulfill’s mode of action is targeted specifically against the feeding mechanism of aphids, making it safe for beneficial insects.
Whether the aphids contact Fulfill directly at spraying or ingest residual Fulfill later on, they stop feeding within two hours. Growers may still see aphid activity but they have stopped feeding and no longer pose a threat to the crop.

Rovral spraying options
Rovral Flo from Bayer CropScience has had its label expanded to provide more flexible spraying options to control sclerotinia and alternaria.
It has been approved for spraying at three-quarters of standard rate for protection against sclerotinia in conditions where the risk of the disease is low.
In areas that anticipate heavy disease pressure, farmers can now use split applications to protect their canola. The herbicide can be applied at a half to three-quarter rate during the 20-30 percent bloom stage followed by a second application at the half standard rate at 50 percent bloom.

Data collector
PigChamp Inc. has introduced a hand-held production data collection system for pork producers.
The hand-held instant data system, or IDS, is a combination of a rugged Psion Workabout hand-held computer and a Pig-Champ software program.
Hog barn workers can record data in the barns and immediately download it into a computer.
It allows for quick and accurate input of production management information.

Treatment applicators
Graham Seed Treating Systems has four new applicator upgrade kits for air keg seed treating systems.
The kits may be used on Agsco, GAP or similar keg chemical units.
Kits include the applicator, connecting poly tubing, the control system with glycerin-filled gauge and control value. Also included are calibrated setting charts for the most popular application products.
The kits significantly increase application accuracy of keg delivery systems by improving the accuracy of chemical and seed delivery. They are available from several agricultural suppliers, including UFA, Federated Co-op farm centres and Graham Seed Farms.
