Mult-terrain loaders
Caterpillar has a new line of rubber-tracked loaders.
The 267 and 277 are multi-terrain loaders for conditions where a
traditional skid steer loader would get bogged down or cause damage.
The 267 has an operating capacity, defined as 35 percent of tipping
load, of 921 kilograms and the 277’s capacity is 937 kg.
The naturally aspirated Cat 3034 diesel engine powers the 267,
producing 59 horsepower. A turbocharged 3034 produces 74 hp in the 277.
The closed-loop, high-output hydrostatic drive features an anti-stall

system. A pilot-hydraulic joystick steers the machine and there are
hand and foot throttles.
A mechanical quick coupler is standard, allowing quick changes of
tools, such as buckets, snow blowers, backhoes, forks, augers and
blades.
The traction system transfers machine weight to the ground through 48
wheeled contact points for even distribution and stability.
Each track assembly is mounted to the chassis through a set of flexible
torsion axles and each assembly can flex independently.
The moulded rubber track has no steel, but is durable. Each track is 18
inches wide and the track on the ground is 81 inches.

Microturbine generator
Capstone Turbine Corp. produces microturbines that run on a variety of
fuels to produce electricity.
Fuel sources include low and high pressure natural gas, biogas,
propane, sour gas, kerosene and No. 2 diesel.
Like a jet engine, the Capstone MicroTurbine mixes fuel with air to
create combustion.
The combustion turns a single turbine shaft at speeds up to 96,000 rpm,
which in turn powers a magnet generator using air bearings that require
no lubricants or coolants.
It produces extremely low nitrous oxide emissions and can run around
the clock.
Each unit is about the size of a refrigerator and depending on the
model generates 30 to 60 kilowatts of electricity. They can be linked
to provide larger amounts of electricity.
The exhaust can be used as a heat source.
